Sign of the Year
We selected this beautiful and elegant sign as the Sign of the Yesr for 2019. . We made three of these very large (12 ft high) entrance signs for the City of Coos Bay, Oregon. They are are outdoor signs mounted on posts. They are carved in 3-D relief from 20 lb/ft3 Precision Board Plus High-Density-Urethane (HDU). This sign was made of 5 separate pieces of HDU carved separately on one of our 3-D routers. The sign uses a sandwich construction of two 2 inch thick HDU sheets, with an internal steel frame made of 2 inch x 1 inch tubes welded together and imbedded in the back HDU sheet. The two sheets of HDU and internal frame were epoxied and screwed together to make a seamless robust sign. Hand sanding and filling was done to make a smooth seamless sign. The sign was prime coated and painted with 1-Shot sign enamels, using an airbrush and artist brush. The entire sign was then coated with three coats of long-lasting Matthews polyurethane acrylic clear. This plaque will last decades in the marine climate without the paint fading.
