MA3612 - "John's Woodshop" Sign with Script Letters Carved in 2D Flat Relief from Walnut Wood
This photo of a sign for "John's Woodshop" shows two groups ("John" and "Woodshop:) of linked script letters, plus the "s" and ' , carved in 2D flat relief from Walnut wood. These letters are stained dark then clear-coated. There are embedded threaded studs on the backs of each group which are inserted into drilled holes in the middle of a sign board or building wall.
We can carve individual or connected letters and numbers in either 2-D relief, or in 2.5-D two-level relief (i.e., where the border of the letter can be raised or depressed), or in 3-D bas-relief (e.g., letter strokes with a prismatic or rounded profile). We carve letters and numbers from High-Density-Urethane (HDU) in any shape , which can be painted, or they can be plated with bronze, brass or aluminum metals, or gilded with gold, silver or copper leaf. Alternatively, they can be carved from several wood species, which can be stained and/or painted, sometimes with a Dibond or aluminum backer for extra strength.
