Shown in the photo above are 2.5-D flat relief bronze plaques. We offer raised text/art/borders 2.5-D outline relief bronze, aluminum, brass, copper,nickel-silver, and stainless steel wall plaques of the five military service seals (USN, USMC, USAF, USA, and USGC) , which make a handsome set. These wall plaques can be made in a wide range of diameters from 10 inches to 96 inches. These can also be customized and personalized by mounting them on other shapes of wooden plaques (mahogany, cherry, maple, oak, redwood, cedar) with carved or brass plate text. Of course, a logo or emblem of any unit or ship can be added onto this larger plaque. These wall plaques are suitable for both inside and outside locations. They may be purchased separately as well as in a set of 3 or 5 plaques.
We offer two material choices for these plaques. The more expensive choice is solid cast bronze or cast aluminum, where hot liquid bronze (or aluminum) is poured into a sand casting mold. These are relatively heavy and very durable. We offer these in any diameter from 10 inches to 96 inches. These are standard plaques, and although they can be personalized, it is quite expensive to do so since new molds are required, unlike our carved metal-coated plaques described in the next paragraph, where there is no additional charge for customization or personalization.
The second less expensive alternative is to carve in 2.5-D raised outline-relief the seal's design in ultra High-Density-Urethane(30 lb/ft3, twice the density used by most sign makers). After the HDU is carved, the plaque is coated with a veneer of 10 mil thick real bronze, brass, or several other metals in a cold-casting process. The metal coating is then polished to a high shine and the lower background is coated with a patina or painted flat black, dark brown, (or other dark colors) for contrast. A plaque made this way looks very similar to a cast metal plaque.
The advantages of metal-coating plaques is that they are about 1/3 to 1/4 the price, especially for custom or personalized plaques, and are much lighter than cast metal plaques. Although they will last decades inside and at least 10 years outside, they are not expected to last several hundred years like cast solid metals. They also cannot be walked on or hit with high impact objects, whereas like cast bronze or aluminum plaques are sturdier and tougher. The metal-coated HDU plaques can be made in diameters from 12 inches to 60 inches. We can coat our carved HDU plaques with bronze, brass, copper, nickel-silver (German silver), stainless steel, and aluminum, All of these metal coatings can be highly polished and they can have different painted background colors, in addition to black. Dark (Navy) blue and dark (Forest) green are also good choices. although the photo shows 2,5-D outline relief metal-coated plaques, we can also metal-coated any 3-D carved , sculptured bas-relief HDU sign or plaque in this Gallery.
